This week, our children enjoyed a very special assembly where they travelled back in time to learn about the Mari Lwyd, a very old winter tradition from Wales.
The children discovered that long, long ago, people did not have supermarkets or central heating and winter was a very difficult time for many families. They learned that people believed singing loudly and happily could help trees grow well, farmers grow good crops and bring luck for the year ahead.
We talked about how the Mari Lwyd and the villagers would visit local houses, knock on the doors and challenge the people inside to a friendly singing contest. The children were delighted when we were lucky enough to have the Mari Lwyd visit us during our assembly! We listened to traditional Welsh songs and enjoyed learning about this exciting part of Welsh culture.

To finish, the children reflected thoughtfully on how we can show kindness and help our friends at school over the next few weeks, linking the tradition of togetherness to our everyday actions.
It was a joyful and memorable experience for everyone involved.
