Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: Our Playground Pals

At our school, we believe that creating a safe, kind, and inclusive environment starts with empowering our pupils. We are incredibly proud of our long-standing commitment to peer mentoring and student-led support.Every single year, our Year 5 children work alongside the award-winning charity BulliesOut to complete a full day’s interactive training workshop.

This intensive session equips our pupils with vital life skills, focusing heavily on conflict resolution, active listening, and empathy. Through role-play, team games, and collaborative activities, they learn how to spot when a peer needs a friend, how to safely defuse minor playground disputes, and how to champion positive relationship-building.

🌟 What is a Playground Pal?

Following their training, these pupils step into their roles as official Playground Pals. They act as approachable, trustworthy points of contact during break times and lunchtimes. Their mission is simple yet powerful:

  • Promote Inclusive Play: Organising playground games so no child ever feels lonely or left out.
  • Resolve Relational Conflict: Using their new skills to help peers talk through misunderstandings calmly and fairly.
  • Be a Bridge to Staff: Acting as a supportive link between pupils and duty staff when bigger issues arise.
