Year 5 Dance Extravaganza

On Thursday 19th of June the class took part in 'Dance Extravaganza' a dance show for schools and dance clubs in the Tramshed in Cardiff.

The children worked with Ffion a dance teacher to think of a story, choreographer the dance, choose the music and learn the routines. The dance told the story of a refugees journey which is in keeping with our topic for this half term. Two weeks before the show we were told we had another dance slot to fill and were ambitious enough to learn another routine to showcase our new found talent. The children all performed brilliantly and embraced this wonderful opportunity to perform in front of a big audience with bright lights and sound systems. We were all so proud of them.

We have also been busy working with an artist once a week and are in the middle of writing a musical with original songs. Children have written a playscript empathising with refugees, made Chatterpix animations told from a refugee child's point of view. And created art projects using bird models carrying messages of hope, as carrier pigeon's did in the war. Lots still to squeeze into the last few weeks of the Summer term.
