From Welsh cakes to Castle Walls, Year 6 have explored it all!
Year 6 have been exploring why Colwinston is known as a thankful village, diving into the history and experiences that shaped this special community. As part of their learning, they created ration-style Welsh cakes, giving them a hands-on understanding of what life was like during wartime when resources were limited. They also learned about what it means to be a thankful village and why communities like Colwinston are remembered for their resilience and gratitude.
To deepen their understanding of life during the Second World War, the children visited Cardiff Castle to explore how the city and its people coped during the Blitz. The class explored the castle walls to find out what life was like during this time in Cardiff. They experienced a fantastic workshop here which added to their knowledge. Through these activities, Year 6 have gained a real sense of the strength, courage, and community spirit that defined the era, making their learning both meaningful and memorable.
